HEY AWESOME FOLKS!
I'm about to spill the beans on Michaela and Kellyanne's spectacular day at Breckenhill in Ballyclare, County Antrim, back in April. These two lovebirds entrusted me with capturing their journey into forever, opting for my photo and video package. I looked after the video side of things and I hired the talented Leigh Parke from Leigh Parke Photography to work his magic with the photographs. I’ve been lucky to film a few same-sex marriages in the past for other videographers but Michaela and Kellyanne were the first same-sex couple to book me for their wedding and I couldn’t wait to meet them and capture their special day.
The morning of their wedding unfolded with bridal prep. Leigh and I stopped in at both brides' houses in Belfast and were made to feel very welcome. The craic was the best, with laughter and emotions thoroughly on the cards. We captured the main details before getting a few quick snaps of the brides and their bridesmaids having their hair and makeup completed. The girls chose Rachel Turner from Rachel Turner Hair & Jessie @ Reflections as the hair artists and the makeup was completed by Studio A.
Whenever a bride does a champagne pop at bridal prep I give them the idea of hitting me with the cork as I had always imagined it would make for great footage. Michaela on the other hand saw this as a challenge and as she wiggled the cork out of the bottle it rocketed right towards my head, sending all of us into fits of laughter. Well done, Michaela! You're the first bride to do it and I'm glad I got it on camera.
Next, it was on to the dresses that the girls got from WED2BE and Reflections in Lisburn. Both were incredibly stunning and although the girl didn’t know it yet, they had both gone for similar style dresses. They obviously have very good taste! We got some snaps of the girls' bridesmaids helping them into their dresses and then we headed off to Ballyclare to get set up for the ceremony.
Now, Breckenhill, let me tell you, is a hidden gem. The Georgian-style house and the enchanting "Dark Hedges" entrance lane were a highlight for me. It even has a meadow area with a pond which looked amazing in the photos and videos.
As Michaela and Kellyanne arrived, they were surrounded by their bridesmaids as the brides shared their first look with each other which really tugged at the heartstrings. Seriously, it was super emotional!
And then came the ceremony – electric doesn't even cut it. I've been very lucky to have been a part of a lot of wedding ceremonies, but this one had such a buzz! The joy and laughter were contagious, and we even had one little boy shout “Can I get a biccy now?”, sending everyone into a fit of laughter, making it a ceremony to remember. The ceremony was beautifully conducted by Laura Fitzsimons and the band Happily Ever After set the perfect tone with their music which brought even more emotion to the occasion.
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed the drinks reception. One of the things that’s different about Breckenhill is that they allow you to bring your own booze, so everyone was in great spirits. Pardon the pun!
We wrapped up the formal family photos as fast as possible so that guests and family could get back to socialising, before taking Michaela, Kellyanne, and the bridal party for some photos around the grounds of Breckenhill. I’d say you’d be hard-pressed to find a photographer or videographer who wouldn’t like taking photos or videos at Breckenhill. It’s honestly so picturesque.
Fairy Tree Cakes crafted a stunning cake for the girls, and the flowers and decor for the day were made by CKS Rustic Decor. They added such an amazing touch to an already beautiful venue.
The night continued with some quick but heartfelt speeches, before Leigh and I finished for the day. We couldn't have had more fun and laughs were certainly plentiful.
As I look back on Michaela and Kellyanne's day, I'm reminded once again that love is the star of the show. It was a joy being part of their story, and I'm sending these newlyweds all the good vibes as they embark on this beautiful journey together.
For those dreaming of a wedding that's the perfect blend of charm and rustic, remember Breckenhill. Such a stunning venue and I can’t wait to get back there again.
Michaela and Kellyanne, here's to a love story that lasts a lifetime. Cheers to happiness! 🥂
